The Troup County Board of Commissioners approved Tuesday a contract with LaGrange-based Blackwell Inc. to complete some much-needed work on the Troup County Government Center at 100 Ridley Avenue.
Troup County Community Development Director Jay Anderson said the front of the government center is in need of resurfacing due to years of weathering on the stone.
According to county documents, the scope of the project includes resurfacing the ADA handicap ramp, front porch, and stairs located at the main entrance to the government center.
The last time this area of the center was resurfaced was over a decade ago, Anderson said.
The project involves removing and cleaning the existing surfaces to properly receive the adhesion of the new traffic deck coating system and grinding out and cleaning the existing cracks to install new crack sealants.
Work will be performed after the Government Center’s operation hours and on weekends.
Blackwell’s submitted the low quote/bid in the amount of $27,500. A second bid of $32,591 by Southern Preservation was submitted as well.
Anderson said these repairs should add an additional 20 years to that specific area of the building’s life as long as occasional maintenance was performed.
Earlier this year, Blackwell was selected to perform a series of renovations on the Juvenile Court Building across from the government center. The extent of the project involved reconstituting the mortar joints within the building to mitigate water penetration and moisture issues.
Anderson said the company was making substantial progress with the juvenile court renovation.
