The LaGrange Police Department are still investigating an incident in which a driver allegedly pulled a gun on a Troup County School System bus driver Wednesday.
Capt. Dale Strickland said Friday investigators are currently waiting on the video surveillance footage from the bus to properly access the incident.
“Based on the information from the bus driver, we’re not sure if a crime occurred,” Strickland said. “In order for it to be considered a crime, the gun has to be directed at somebody in a way that they think they’re about to be shot or has to be in a way that he could have fired it off and hit somebody.”
The bus was near the intersection of Ragland Avenue and Lafayette Parkway when a driver allegedly pulled up beside the bus, pointed a gun at the bus driver and then sped away, Irisha Goodman, public relations director for TCSS, said Wednesday. Goodman said the bus was completing its last stop of the day but there were no children on the bus at the time. The suspect did not get out of their vehicle.
Strickland said if the video footage proves the driver was pointing the gun and could have potentially endangered the driver, investigators will push to identify the driver and make an arrest.
The tag number of the vehicle the bus driver provided did not come back on a registered vehicle, Strickland said.
