1932-2022

Ruth Duke Neighbors, 89, was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Geraldine, Alabama, daughter of the late Lester Clayton Duke and Eloyse Bagley Duke. Ruth was raised in LaGrange and graduated from LaGrange High School.

Ruth held various secretarial positions but her love was working in the medical field. She attended Living Waters Baptist Church where she was surrounded by church members that treated her like family.

Her greatest love was for God and her family. She was kind, caring and compassionate. Holidays were always filled with love and laughter and a table full of her home cooked meals. She loved being a caregiver. She was always available to sit with someone in Hospice and frequently baked cakes for the Hospice staff. Although her memory faded and she was confined to her wheelchair, she was always reaching out to the residents of her assisted living to give them a hand if needed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Glenn Neighbors.

Survivors include his daughters, Sharon (Jim) Sanders and Donna (Jeff) Smith; granddaughters, Lori (Erin) Godfrey, Meagan (Chris) Galle and Elizabeth Sanders; grandson, Clayton (Sara) Smith; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Crawford, Jacob Sanders, Madison Godfrey, Owen Godfrey, Andrew Galle, Will Galle, Emma Claire Galle, Jackson Smith, and Kaylee Smith; brother, Loyd Duke of Phenix City, Alabama.

The Gathering of Family and Friends was held Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the Graveside Service at 2 p.m. in Hillview East Cemetery. The Rev. Woody Woodard officiated.
