The state of Georgia and even the southeastern region is finding out what we here in Troup County have already known — there are some high caliber athletes in our community.
It’s part of the reason we decided to start an Athlete of the Week recognition last week, as it was an opportunity to highlight the best of Troup County on the field, court and diamond. We anticipate that notoriety growing this year as a way to highlight even more students.
We can’t wait for football season to officially begin next week, giving us a chance to highlight the Cougars, Grangers, Cavaliers and Tigers on the field. The same goes for volleyball and softball.
As these young men and women continue to perfect their craft, we look forward to the future of Troup County athletics.
One thing is certain — there is no shortage of athletic talent in our community.
Just look at the college ranks for proof. Tank Bigsby is a household name at Auburn. In the pros, both Braylon Sanders and Terry Godwin are working hard to try to make NFL rosters.
If there is one thing that brings a community together, it is sport. It also creates some of the fiercest rivalries, bringing out the competitive nature in everyone.
As the high school athletic season is set to kick off, we can’t wait to bring you all the action.
