Troup softball earned a dominant 16-0 win over Starr’s Mill on Tuesday to start off region play.
It was a team effort for Troup, but it was Ramsey Clark who stole the show. She was outstanding defensively and put in a dominant performance from the plate. She was in 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs from the lead off spot. Her ability to consistently get on base has been big for Troup all season and showed once again against Starr’s Mill.
After a stalemate in the first inning, the Tigers blew the game wide open in the second inning as they plated seven runs. Shelby Addison got the party started with a ground out to drive in a run. The next six runs all came with two outs. Clark got a single to drive in the second run of the game before Sheniyah Philpot and Maggie McDonald drove in a run apiece.
Then, up stepped Camdyn Bassett who put in a dominant pitching performance against Callaway on Saturday before launching a home run to excite the crowd. She was back at it on Tuesday as she hit her second home run in just three days to drive in the final three runs of the inning. Bassett went 2-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Troup went back to work in the following inning and scored another seven runs to make it 14-0. Addison hit a triple to drive in a run and get the scoring started in the inning. Haley Cotton, Clark, Philpot and McDonald followed this up by driving in a run apiece to make it 12-0. McDonald scored on a dropped third strike before Patience Walker hit an RBI single to round out the scoring in the inning for the Tigers.
The Tigers added two additional runs in the fourth and final inning when McDonald hit an RBI double and scored on a dropped strike later in the inning.
McDonald got the start on the mound as well and went the whole four innings without letting up a run. She only allowed three hits on four strikeouts in the game. She aided her cause from the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. McDonald also scored two runs and drove in three.
Quality offensive performances were in abundance on the night for Troup. Philpot was one of them as she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Watkins had a near perfect night near the bottom of the order with a 3-for-3 night, two runs scored and an RBI in her stat line.
Troup improves to 5-1 on the young season and starts its region schedule 1-0. Troup will be back in action on Thursday against LaGrange at home.
