Callaway loses close game to Brookstone on the road

The Callaway softball team dropped a back-and-forth game with Brookstone 10-5 on Wednesday. Despite the loss, it was the best performance offensively from the Cavaliers this season.
The Cavaliers got off to a quick start as they took the lead in the top of the first inning. Ava Shufrod hit a ground ball and reached on an error as Emma Bryan crossed home plate.
Brookstone tied the game in the second inning before taking a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
Callaway battled back and was able to recapture the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Kaitlyn Williams singled to drive in Shuford and tied the game at two all. Kinley Smith doubled on a fly ball to left field to drive in two more runs and make it 4-2.
Brookstone scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to retake the lead, but the Cavaliers were not done fighting. Smith singled to drive in a run in the top of the sixth inning and tie the game at six all.
Broosktone killed the game off in the bottom of the sixth inning with four runs as the Cavaliers could not respond in the seventh inning.
Mya Lawton go the start on the mound and went five innings with Williams coming into relieve her in the final frame.
Smith was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the way for the Cavaliers. Williams was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Shuford had an RBI and a run scored to go along with a hit. Karlie Walker also got a hit in the game.
Callaway falls to 1-6 on the season. The Cavaliers will be back in action against Starr’s Mill on Monday
