LaGrange police have arrested a man accused of breaking into the home of the mother of his children and attacking her.
Demetrius Montrell Smith, 42, was charged with burglary, battery, and two counts of cruelty to children, all family violence cases, stemming from an alleged incident over the weekend.
According to the LPD, at 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 10 officers responded to the 300 block of Creekside Dr. in LaGrange in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Officers spoke with a woman who stated that Smith, forced his way into her home and assaulted her by hitting her repeatedly in the head and throwing her to the ground before stealing her cell phone and leaving the location.
Smith was later located by police at his new residence, and he was placed under arrest after all involved parties were interviewed, according to an LPD press release.
Police say the evidence suggests that Smith committed the aforementioned offenses, so he was taken into custody and transported to the Troup County Jail.
