According to a release from the Troup County School system, a school resource officer (SRO) discovered a LaGrange High School student on the campus of Troup High School on Wednesday.
“While questioning the student, the SRO searched the student and found a loaded gun in his waistband,” the release said. “The student was arrested, an investigation is underway, and proper disciplinary protocol is being followed.”
The principals at both schools have notified parents of the incident by SendIt, the notification system used by the Troup County School System.
In the message sent to parents and guardians of Troup High School, principal Niki Watts said a Chromebook was found on the THS campus, and shortly after, a THS staff member reported that a juvenile they did not recognize was in the hallway.
“Officer Cadenhead (SRO) and I began to question the student, and ultimately, he was searched,” Watts said in the notice. “During this process, a loaded gun was found in his waistband, and the student was immediately arrested by our SRO.”
