Mrs. Ellen Barber Phillips, (81), of West Point, passed away on Oct. 7, 2022, at Wellstar West Georgia Hospice.
Ellen was born in Chambers County, Alabama on April 6, 1941, to the late Andrew Barber and Mary Lynn Golden Williams.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Philips is preceded in death by her precious daughter, Vivian Smith Claar, and brothers, Ed Barber and Henry Barber.
Ellen graduated from Troup High School and attended Tift College. She worked for several years at Playtex, graduated from West Georgia Technical College, and worked there before retiring.
She loved her family, her puppy dogs, working in her garden, cutting grass, reading, and making biscuits for everyone. Making biscuits was her special gift, as well as her generous spirit.
She never let anyone leave her house empty-handed. She was a hard worker even unto death.
Ellen was a devoted wife to Duck, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a great-grandmother.
She will be fondly remembered for her front porch visits and her forehead kisses. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband, Donald “Duck” Phillips; her children, Lynda Smith Green (Tony) and Cindy Smith Jackson (Todd O’Neal); her siblings, Andy Barber, Joyce Bell, and Larry Barber; her grandchildren, Tanya Green Jones (Jeff), Lucas Alan Green (Erica), Annie Jackson Morrow (Blake), Matthew Edward Claar, Emma Jackson Brannon (Will), and Joseph Andrew Claar; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, Abigail, Brylee, Joyner, Wiley, Cole, and Eleanor, and additional extended family and friends.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they make their way through this very challenging time.
A memorial service will be held on Fri. Oct. 14, at the Gray Hill Community Center at 3600 Bartley Road in West Point.
The family will receive friends from 2 P.M. until service commences at 3 P.M.
