LaGrange got straight down to brass tacks in the opening game of the super regionals as the Grangers toppled Islands 7-0 to make the semifinals of the super regional and put themselves just two wins away from the final eight tournament in Columbus.
It was a complete team victory, but Zoe Thompson’s continued dominance on the mound was key. It was a complete game shutout as she limited the Sharks to just four hits on two strikeouts.
The Grangers pounced early with a Carolyne Garcia RBI in the bottom of the first. Kaylee Bryant grounded out to drive in a second Granger run in the bottom of the third to double the Grangers lead.
The LaGrange offense was churning out quality at bats all morning, and it really started to pay off in the later innings.
Tatiana Dudley hit an RBI double and then scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth to double the Grangers lead to four. Dudley had the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The fifth inning saw LaGrange plate another two runs on a Bryant sacrifice fly and Kimberly Reynolds reaching home on an error. Both of these girls were crucial to getting the win. Despite not registering a hit Bryant had two RBIs. Reynolds was 1-for-2 with a run scored, a walk and two stolen bases.
Clary Anne Adcock, a freshman, has seen more playing time as of late and capitalized in a big moment during her first playoff game by driving in the Grangers seventh and final run of the game on a ground out in the sixth inning.
Hudson Wood and Abby McGill each had a hit and a run scored. Addyson Arnett and Garcia both had a hit as well for the Grangers.
LaGrange will take on the winner of Cairo and Griffin at 4:30 p.m.
