The 12th annual Turkey Trot is set to return on Thanksgiving morning.
For more than a decade, The Inner Path yoga and fitness studio have hosted a charity run through the streets of LaGrange for a variety of causes.
The event was created 12 years ago by the studio’s owner, Lisa Alford, after she couldn’t make it to Atlanta’s annual half marathon held each year on Thanksgiving Day.
She and a group of friends decided to run on their own and ended up with dozens joining them, and it became an annual tradition.
Since its inception, the annual trot has evolved into a charity fundraiser that sponsors a variety of causes. This year, the race will support Illuminate Justice, a local nonprofit in LaGrange that works to prevent child sex trafficking and pursues justice for victims.
To compete in the race, runners are asked to provide an optional monetary donation. No registration is required to participate.
The race is meant to be more of a fun run than an intense competition and is open to runners or walkers of all skill levels. Participants can choose from a 2-mile route or a 5-mile route.
The Turkey Trot will begin outside the yoga studio at 206 Smith St. in LaGrange at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving.
The proceeds from the annual Turkey Trot go to a good cause, so residents are encouraged to “run, walk or crawl” their way to the finish line and build up an appetite before their Thanksgiving feasts.
