Sharpen your axes — Chop House Axe Throwing has a new home on the Lafayette Square.

The business has been up for sale since May and has sold to four new owners — DJ Morris, Kelly Morris, Corey Myhand and Kylie Myhand.

Upon securing ownership from previous owners Justin and Valerie Daniel, DJ said moving the business to downtown LaGrange felt like a good plan.

“We’ve been seeing huge growth in the downtown area,” DJ said. “In the last 10 or 15 years, downtown has really been booming. You’ve got the hotel, the brewery, the amphitheater, and it just seemed like everything’s migrating downtown.”

DJ also said another part of moving downtown is its foot traffic and visibility for potential customers.

“In Downtown LaGrange, there’s something historic about it that brings the city together, and we wanted to be a part of that,” DJ said.

He said while the team doesn’t plan to do much different from the old management, they hope to expand the business more and offer snacks, drinks and maybe activities other than axe throwing.

“We haven’t decided for sure what we’re going to do, but we want to make it a recreational venue, so people can come down and have a good time,” DJ said. “Right now, the ax throwing will be for the first six months when we open.”

DJ said the target opening date for the Chop House is Jan.6.

DJ also said right now, they have gift certificates available for Christmas (not available online) and offer lane sponsorships.

“I have gift certificates with me every day if people want to purchase a gift certificate,” DJ said.

Lane sponsorships are also available for interested businesses.

“Once they pay for a sponsorship, they can come in and throw for an hour at any point, and it gives them a banner, which has high visibility in the new location to promote their business,” DJ said.

Chop House Axe Throwing is located at 8 East LaFayette Square and will be open Thursday – Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m to 6 p.m.
