LaGrange started off its new region schedule with a win over North Clayton on the road on Tuesday, but it was anything but easy as the Grangers eked out a 68-62 win.
It might have been a different outcome without the heroics of Devin Dowell, who finished the game with 27 points. He scored seven points in the first quarter before taking over in the second with 13 points including two 3-pointers.
North Clayton was able to stay in the game by bombarding the Grangers with 3-pointers, connecting on nine attempts.
The offense took a step back in the second half for the Grangers as the Eagles were able to claw back into the game.
BJ Wortham finished second on the team in scoring with 10 points. Jaylen Young — who continues to work his way back from injury — finished with nine points and helped close out the game with three big free throws in the fourth quarter.
North Clayton came into the game riding an 11 game losing streak and the Grangers narrowly escaped falling victim to the Eagles who are still looking for their first win since the opening game of the season.
LaGrange improves to 10-2 on the season and are riding a three game winning streak. The team started off region play 1-0 and host their region home opener on Saturday against Whitewater.
