The Troup Tigers needed a region win and got their first one under first year head coach Jairo Gay on Friday when they edged out Trinity Christian 58-56.
The Tigers, who trailed by eight heading into the final quarter, pulled off a massive comeback to get their most important win of the season so far.
The trio of Deo’Vion Tucker, DeJaylen Campbell and Desmon Cunningham powered the Tigers to a clutch win. Tucker and Campbell scored five points in the fourth quarter while Cunningham had four to lead the Tiger charge late. Campbell finished the game as the Tigers leading scorer with 13 points.
The game was back-and-forth with the Tigers trailing by two points after the first quarter. The game was tied at 26 heading into the break and the Lions came out of halftime on a run, scoring 24 points in the third quarter alone.
Dee Moreland scored 12, Jalen Brown had 11 and Tucker finished with 10 to help lead the way for the Tiger offense.
Troup improved to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in region play.
“It was a great win against a very tough Trinity Christian team,” Troup coach Jairo Gay said. “After dropping the first four region games, we’ve been working towards redefining out identity as a team. Tonight showed it.”
