Troup put on a show in front of the home crowd in a 78-55 win over region opponent North Clayton.
The Tigers suffocated North Clayton early and were able to capture a significant lead that they would never relinquish. It started with Troup leading 14-12 after a back-and-forth first quarter. The Tigers blew the game open in the second quarter by outscoring their opponents by 21 points and taking a 23 point lead into the halftime break. Jalen Brown torched North Clayton and single handedly outscored the Eagles in the quarter 13-8. Brown finished the game leading all scorers with 17 points.
The Tigers were in cruise control and didn’t let the Eagles get back in the game. Troup was able to get some younger players some valuable minutes, including freshman Torrieon Delaney who came in and hit a long 3-pointer and silky finish at the rim as well to finish with five points.
The second half was the Dee Moreland show as he scored four points on two baskets. The two baskets were both dunks that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Moreland finished with 10 points and finished with more points in the first half than the second but everybody walking out of the gym was thinking about those two dunks in the second half as the Tigers poured it on and the crowd turned up the volume.
DeJaylen Campbell and Devo’Vion Tucker were able to keep the offense moving all night for the Tigers and both finished with 12 points in the game.
Troup had lost three straight coming into the game, including a 42 point loss on Thursday night. The Tigers also suffered a defeat to the Eagles earlier in the season but showed poise on Friday night to get a crucial region victory. Troup improved to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in region play. The Tigers will have another massive region test when they host Whitewater on Tuesday.
