Two men from Columbus were killed when they drove into a construction zone on Hamilton Road at Smokey Road and hit an excavator, according to Deputy Coroner Amy Sheppard.

Sheppard said the vehicle, Jerry Lee Tucker, 52, and Alvin Passmore Jr., 57, was driving was probably 100 yards into the construction zone. Tucker was the driver of the vehicle.

She said a homeowner reported they heard a house noise around 10 p.m. Saturday night but thought it was just a tree falling. The accident was reported to 911 at 8:08 a.m. Sunday morning.
