Callaway battled hard to come away with a 47-35 win over Eagle’s Landing on Friday in the region tournament third-place game.
The Cavaliers had to use a second half surge after falling behind in the opening two quarters. The first quarter was back-and-forth with Raniya Mahone keeping Callaway in the game with eight points in the quarter. The Cavaliers still trailed by two after the opening quarter, which turned into a seven point deficit at halftime. The offense went cold in the second quarter, scoring just three points — all from Jailyn Baker.
The Cavalier defense came out in the second half with avengeance and did not allow a single point in the third. Callaway was able to take a 35-27 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Mahone once again heated up to lead the Cavalier offense with eight points in the quarter to finish with 16 in the game.
The Cavaliers did not allow Eagle’s Landing back in the game, controlling the final quarter of play.
Keiyunna Maddox scored 10 points.
Aniyah McFarland finished with seven while Lacey Thomas, Tra’Niyah Mitchell and Baker scored two points apiece.
Callaway will enter the playoffs as a three seed. The Cavaliers will be on the road to start the playoffs on Tuesday or Wednesday.
