The Lafayette Christian baseball team had no problems on Tuesday as they brushed aside Central 12-1 in a game that only lasted five innings.
The Cougars got to work early with Paul Batastini hitting an RBI single in the top of the first to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. This was just the beginning of a hot night for the Cougars offense, and in particular Batastini, who went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored in the game.
The Cougars offense got right back at it in the top of the second with Whitt Bowen grounding out to get two runs home. A Braden Firth double later in the inning cleared the bases and gave Lafayette Christian a 6-0 lead. Batastini got his second RBI of the game to wrap up the scoring for the Cougars in the inning to give the away team a 7-0 lead.
Lafayette Christian added two more runs to its tally when Firth reached on an error. Central got a run back on a home run in the bottom of the third, but it served as little more than a consolation run.
The Cougars scored their final three runs in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI, triple from Batastini and a Liam Carroll RBI double.
Lafayette Christian is now 5-1 on the season and has rattled off five wins in a row, all by at least seven runs, after losing its opening game 10-0. The Cougars will host Springwood on Thursday.
