The LaGrange baseball team went on the road and got one of its most important wins so far this season, topping Whitewater 5-2 on Monday.
It did not take the Grangers long to score with Trey Cook reaching home in the top of the first on an error to give LaGrange an early lead it would never surrender.
The Grangers added a run to their lead in the top of the third inning on a Robbie Parker RBI single. LaGrange was not done there and added two more runs in the fourth on a triple from Seth Stargell that sent two players home to give LaGrange a 4-0 lead.
The Wildcats added a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to trim the Granger lead to just two runs. LaGrange added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a Stargell RBI single. Stargell was sensational, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Preston Pressley put together one of his strongest offensive showings of the year, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Cole Garner and Parker each had a hit in the game.
Caden Wood got the start on the mound and delivered in his six innings, allowing just six hits and two earned runs on seven strikeouts against a formidable Whitewater attack. Parker came in for the final inning and got a strikeout to help slam the door on any Wildcat rally attempt.
LaGrange improves to 9-7 overall and 2-1 in region play. The Grangers will host the Wildcats for an instant rematch on Tuesday.
