Troup County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Stewart Smith said 80 to 100 properties received damage during Sunday morning’s storm, and another 20 to 30 had “significant” damage or were destroyed.
Smith said damage began around the 7800 block of West Point, which is part of unincorporated Troup County. The storm then traveled east toward Meriwether County.
The warning was issued as a “confirmed” and “dangerous” tornado by the National Weather Service.
Diverse Power lists 970 residents without power on its website Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m.
If confirmed as a tornado, this would be the fourth tornado to hit Troup County since Jan. 12, a span of 73 days.
