Troup came up short in a pivotal region matchup on Wednesday, falling 5-3 against Trinity Christian to snap a nine game win streak after a late rally came up just short.
The Tigers actually got out on the right foot, scoring a run in the top of the first inning when Josh McDonald took a bases loaded walk with no outs. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they could not add any more runs in the inning despite being in a prime position to do so, stranding three runners on base. The Lions quickly tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first.
The game was deadlocked until the Lions took their first lead of the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. That lead would also not last long as the Tigers tied the game when Josh McDonald hit a home run over the center field wall. Mcdonal was the standout offensively for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
The Lions quickly answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Troup attempted to mount a rally in the seventh and final inning but came up just short. Carson Walker lined out to drive in a run to cut the deficit to two runs but could not come up with a key hit to tie the game or retake the lead.
Ty Medders, Devon Murphy, Fisher Baltzell and Demetrius Hardnett all had a hit apiece for Troup.
Medders got the start on the mound for Troup and went five innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs on nine strikeouts. Tripp Cummings came in for the final inning, striking out a batter in the process.
Troup is now 17-9 overall and 7-5 in region play. The Tigers are currently tied for fourth place in region 4-4A alongside Trinity Christian with only one of the teams making the playoffs. Trinity Christian will play two games against fifth in the region Fayette County while Troup will play two games against region leader LaGrange to close out the season with the first game scheduled at home on Friday.
