A teacher at Hollis Hand has been arrested on simple battery charges, according to the LaGrange Police Department.
Dontavius Barkley, a teacher at HHE, was arrested Friday, according to Sgt. Brian Brown with the LPD.
The Troup County School System said in a press release Friday that it received a report from a parent that a Hollis Hand teacher had physically injured a student.
Brown said the student was not harmed.
Brown said the LPD was made aware of the incident Thursday evening.
Simple battery is defined as when there are typically no marks left on the victim, Brown explained.
“TCSS is not at liberty to discuss the situation any further as it is a personnel matter and to protect the identity of the student involved,” the press release from the school system said. “As always, the safety and well-being of our students is our first priority.”
It was not immediately clear which grade Barkley teaches, as searches for his name on the TCSS website found no results. Based on previous board documents, Barkley was offered a contract for the 2022-2023 school year in March 2022.
The LaGrange Daily News will update this story as more information comes available.
