Superintendent Brian Shumate announced Dr. Clifton Nicholson as the new principal of Callaway Middle School on Monday night.
Nicholson has twenty-one years of educational experience. He served as a Language Arts teacher for nine years in Atlanta Public Schools and Fulton County Schools. Nicholson then served as an Instructional Coach for three years prior to moving into school administration. He has nine years of experience in school administrative roles serving as Assistant Principal and Principal.
Nicholson’s experience in instructional support, multi-tiered systems of support, special education services and test coordination make him an ideal candidate to continue the school improvement initiatives currently in place and provide instructional leadership for Callaway Middle School moving forward. His experience in driving school improvement and building community stakeholder support in a variety of Title I schools will serve as strengths when working with the staff, students and families of the Callaway community.
Current Callaway Middle School principal Todd McRae resigned from his position to take another job outside the district.
The Troup County Board of Education approved Nicholson’s position during a special board meeting on May 8, 2023. Nicholson will host a meet and greet for staff from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 and another immediately following from 5-6 p.m for parents, students and community members.
