LaGrange police have identified the suspect arrested for fleeing from a domestic violence call into a drainage pipe near Great Wolf Lodge.
Delaun Montray Berry, 21, was charged with simple battery (FVA) and obstruction of officers as a result of the incident, but he is being held for several outside felony warrants.
Officers responded to Great Wolf Lodge Wednesday afternoon upon reports that the suspect was being abusive to a woman and an infant.
Sgt. Robert Hall said the suspect initially provided a false name. When officers discovered the suspect’s real name, he was determined to have felony warrants out of Gwinnett County.
Hall said Berry was determined to have warrants for two separate counts of aggravated stalking (felony), theft by conversion (felony), intimidation (felony) and misdemeanor warrants for battery (FVA) and driving while license suspended.
“When [the officer] ran his name, he came back with all those warrants, she tried to take him into custody and he took off running,” Hall said.
A Taser was deployed to stop Berry but it failed, possibly due to only one prong hitting the suspect.
The officer reported seeing a large object in the suspect’s waistband, which she believed was a gun, but no firearm was recovered.
Great Wolf Lodge was briefly placed on lockdown because the suspect was thought to be armed.
After the suspect fled into a drainage pipe to avoid capture, police set up a large perimeter around the wooded area adjacent to Great Wolf Lodge. Drones were deployed to locate the suspect due to the drains having multiple exits.
The suspect was later located in the woods near the interstate and taken into custody.
Police say the initial investigation revealed that Berry had been holding a baby around the head area while arguing with the woman involved and reportedly threw the child down into a stroller aggressively.
Hall said Berry was charged with simple battery because the child did not sustain visible injuries.
