It was opening day heroics for the Yard Goats, who used a seven-run rally and a walk-off in the seventh to power their way past the Dodgers to start the season 1-0. 

The Yard Goats trailed 12-6 heading into the seventh and final innings of play but had no quit as they produced a sensational rally. It started with two straight walks followed by a sacrifice fly by Robert Butts to cut the deficit to five runs. Two batters later, Cole Freeman hit a double to cut the deficit to just three runs. The Yard Goats kept chipping away, with Hunter Rollins and Wade Nolan hitting RBI singles to cut the Dodgers’ lead to just one run. 

This set the stage perfectly for Cam Gosdin, who hit a two-RBI double to give the Yard Goats a win. It was his only hit of the game, but it came at the most opportune time. 

Freeman was an absolute menace for the Yard Goats, going 4-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. 

HOW IT GOT THERE:

The Dodgers came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first after a mammoth grand slam from Antonio Evans Sr. The Yard Goats got a run back in the bottom of the first, but the Dodgers went yard again in the second inning when Bo Halcomb blasted a ball over the fence to drive in three runs. Halcomb kept up his torrid start by driving in two more runs with a double in the top of the third to extend the Dodgers’ lead out to 9-1. 

Halcomb was a cool 2-for-2 with six RBIs and three runs scored in the game. 

The game was stuck at 9-1 until Wynton Heard hit an RBI double for the Dodgers in the top of the sixth inning to make it 10-1. 

The Yard Goats were able to chip into the Dodgers’ lead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth before pulling off their miraculous rally in the seventh inning. 

Besides Freeman, the Yard Goats also got strong play from Mason Green and Rollins, who had three hits apiece in the game. Gosdin, Nolan and Parker Kennedy had hit each to round out the offense for the Yard Goats.

Chandler Lott got the start on the mound and went three innings, while Josh Hanson and Butts pitched two innings each in relief. 

Hakeem Stargell had a quality offensive showing for the Dodgers by going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jordan Foster was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Evans and Heard had a hit each for the Dodgers. 

TayWilliams got the start on the mound and went four innings while Eddie Sawtelle and Rennell Pitts came in to relieve him. 

The Yard Goats (1-0) and the Dodgers (0-1) will both be back in action next Tuesday, with the Yard Goats taking on the Banana Peels and the Dodgers battling it out with the Royals (0-1).
