Gospel powerhouse Tamela Mann is set to hit the stage at the Sweetland Amphitheatre on Saturday.

Brent Gibbs, general manager for Sweetland Amphitheatre, said Saturday will be a great night of gospel music.

“It’s going to be a family-friendly night. It’s going to be encouraging. It’s going to be loud. It’s just going to be a great night of fellowship,” Gibbs said.

“I think we’re going to have a ton of people who have never been to Sweetland before because of the unique audience that Tamela has and we’re super excited about that. We always want to make new friends on behalf of Sweetland and because Tamela has a dual career in both television and film as well as being a musical artist, where I think we’re attracting some new people who wouldn’t ordinarily choose to come to Sweetland, and that’s really exciting.”

Gibbs said there are a variety of tickets still available for the upcoming show.

“The ticket sales are going well, but we have plenty of tickets left. I think we’re at about 1,500 and our capacity is at 2,500. There’s plenty of good seats left, both reserved and general admission,” Gibbs said. “There’s not a bad seat in the house. It’s also looking like it’s going to be beautiful weather tomorrow. So, I think it’s a perfect night to decide to come out and take in a great show at Sweetland.”

Gibbs said Tamela Mann’s show at Sweetland can’t be missed.

“It’s rare that we get an artist as unique as Tamela, and it’s rare that within a given genre we get someone who’s at the top of their game. The nature of LaGrange’s geography and Sweetland’s capacity has often meant that we either catch artists who are very young or artists who are sort of in the sunset of their career and to have somebody in their prime is just awesome,” Gibbs said. 

“Tamela is ridiculously talented. Her band and singers are just insane, and they’re going to rock [Saturday] night. I think people won’t want to miss it and will kick themselves when they see either on Facebook Live or posts on social media from people who actually come to show. I think there’s going to be a little bit of regret if they miss it.”

Gibbs said creating a diverse lineup of performers has been his goal.

“One of the exciting things about my job is that I am a public servant. I work for the city of LaGrange and so part of my job is to serve the whole of the community, and it’s been my joy to bring different programming to Sweetland that I think has the ability to touch the whole of the community,” Gibbs said.  “When I stepped into my role as general manager, the first contract that I got done was with Tamela Mann, so this is really exciting for me. I’ve only heard her sing on television award shows and in videos on YouTube. I’m excited to be in her presence, and it’s going to be awesome.”
