A suspect managed to slip his handcuffs off and get out of a police car was recaptured Tuesday on Tom Hall Parkway.
Sgt Clint Stephens with the LaGrange Police Department said the suspect, who was not identified, was his way to the Troup County Jail on felony-related charges when the incident occurred.
“On the way to the jail, he slipped his handcuffs off and was able to open the rear door the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers responded and were able to quickly establish a perimeter and got him in custody within just a few minutes of him escaping,” Stephens said.
As a safety procedure, LaFayette Christian School and Troup High School went on lockdown until the LPD located the suspect.
“The lockdown is a common procedure to make sure they are safe since we were in close proximity to the schools. There was no danger to the schools but just as a word of caution, we asked them to place on lockdown so that in the event he ran from a localized area toward one of the schools he couldn’t enter the space,” Stephens said.
Stephens said the suspect was caught hiding inside of a vehicle in a tow yard near Scotty’s Towing service.
