In ongoing efforts to keep LaGrange safe, with the support of Mayor Edmondson and the LaGrange City Council, the LaGrange Police Department is hosting its first-ever community gun buyback event.
This one-day initiative will happen Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, between noon and 8 p.m. The police department will accept — with no questions asked — working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for a $150 Walmart gift card.
Citizens who want to participate will need to do the following:
4 Secure the unloaded firearm(s) in the trunk of their vehicle. If you’re in a truck, or the car trunk does not function, place the weapon in the backseat and all occupants exit the vehicle upon arrival at the police department.
4Come to the police department between noon and 8 p.m. and park in the main parking area outside the front of the building.
4Call the police department main line at (706) 883-2603 and let the clerk know you are there for the gun buyback event.
4 An officer will meet with you to obtain the firearm in exchange for the gift card.
The LPD will accept both working and non-working firearms, and there is no limit on the number of firearms an individual can turn in. The guns must be unloaded and placed in a bag or a box. This is an amnesty program, so the LPD said no questions will be asked about the person dropping off the gun, except their name, which will only be needed to complete a receipt.
