Bassett and Kitchens lead Troup to bounce-back win

The Troup softball team needed to get some momentum going into the home stretch of the season and got some on Monday when they beat Columbus 9-0.
The game was deadlocked for the first two innings, but the Tigers were able to bust the game open in the top of the third with four runs.
Haley Kitchens got the action started with a one-run single.
Kitchens had a huge day offensively, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Kitchens scored her first run later in the third inning to double the Tigers lead.
An error allowed two more Troup runs to score in the inning.
Troup was eventually able to take complete command of the game with five runs in the fifth inning.
Gracie Baker drove in the first run in the fifth with a single and the Tigers were off and running from there.
Kitchens hit a single that combined with an error allowed the Tigers to score three more runs.
Kaitlyn Smalley hit a one-run single to drive in the final run of the game.
Smalley had an outstanding offensive showing, going 3-for-4.
Camdyn Bassett, Hadilee Arnold, Patience Watkins, Zoe Graham, and Baler all had a hit apiece for the Tigers.
Troup got a dominant pitching performance from Bassett, who allowed just two hits on seven strikeouts as she pitched all five innings.
Troup (7-9) will host Riverdale for an important doubleheader region clash on Tuesday.
