Mr. Donald Lee “Don” Davis, age 70, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.
A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at Bethel Baptist Church, Americus, Georgia. Rev. Steve Golden and Rev. Chet Ragsdale will officiate the service. A private interment with full military honors will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023, from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Aldridge Funeral & Cremation Services.
Don was born Oct. 14, 1952, in Heard County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Freeman Kirk Davis Sr. and the late Mattie Lee Davis.
Don was raised in LaGrange, Georgia and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1970. He attended LaGrange College and Georgia Southwestern State University.
Don entered the United States Army in 1971, and received an Honorable Discharge in 1977.
Don’s career field was Law Enforcement. He began his law enforcement career with the LaGrange Police Department. He furthered his career with the Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, becoming a Special Agent. He retired in 2007 after 23 years of service with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandra Minick Davis, of Americus, Georgia; three children: Lorrie Ledger and her husband, Clint, of Leslie, Georgia, Crystal Cheek of Americus, Georgia, and Brandon Davis and his wife, Holly, of Lake Blackshear, Georgia; two stepsons – Mike Goare and his wife, Kim, of Lumpkin, Georgia, and Mitch Goare and his wife, Rebecca, of Columbus, Georgia; two brothers – Kirk Davis and his wife, Darlene, of Asheville, N.C., and Patrick Davis of Franklin, Georgia; one sister, Gail Kelly, of Columbus, Georgia; and seven loving and adorable grandchildren: Molly and Mitchell Goare of Columbus, Georgia; Hailee Goare of Lumpkin, Georgia; Kaitlyn Davis and Davis Sneed of Lake Blackshear, Georgia; Avery Ledger of Leslie, Georgia; and Mattie Cheek of Americus, Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his three children, Celestine Peace Young.
