The five seniors on the LaGrange Academy volleyball team are the team’s heart and soul.
These five —- Anna Beth Kinnersley, Laura Knight, Kaitlann Jones, Charlsie Reed and Zara Saleem — helped found the program five years ago. They then helped take a fledgling program full of beginners to the playoffs. Now, as seniors, they have pushed past all expectations of just five years ago, and on Tuesday night against St. George’s, it was their night, it was senior night.
The Warriors dominated their rivals in three sets to honor their seniors in the best way possible.
The five were celebrated and honored on Tuesday as their time as Warriors winds down, but their impact on the team in school is still being felt and will reverberate into the next generation of LaGrange Academy volleyball players.
The five have led the team to two wins over state runner-up Oak Mountain, and are now on the doorstep of hosting a playoff match for the first time.
The Warriors are also ranked in the top four for the first time in program history, and starting next week when the playoffs tip off, the girls have eyes on making a little bit more history by winning the first playoff game in program history.
The Warriors (12-5) will have a home match against Piedmont on Thursday before taking part in Troup’s Dig Pink tournament on Oct. 4 to wrap up their regular season.
The final playoff seedings will decide whether the Warriors get to host a playoff game. If they win on Thursday they will likely keep their top four ranking and therefore host a playoff game for the first time in program history.
