Friday will live on in Lafayette Christian School basketball lore forever. While the final score did not go their way as the Cougars fell to Trinity Christian of Griffin 69-64, Bruno Tellez put on a record-breaking performance.
Tellez scored a school record 49 points as he put the team on his back and nearly carried them to a road victory. He scored from all over the court, including five 3-pointers and 16 made free throws. He did not just score the basket as he also hauled in 15 rebounds and came away with four steals.
The rest of the offense could not find a groove as Joshua Zapata and Vakiel Hammett were the only other Cougars to get into the scoring column with eight and seven points, respectively.
Lafayette Christian (3-3) has alternated wins and losses this season. The Cougars will get a rematch against Trinity Christian of Griffin at home on Monday.
