Pair of longtime firemen among those given awards for their service to Troup County

The Troup County Board of Commissioners held its quarterly service awards on Tuesday, recognizing a dozen employees with a combined 280 years of experience.
A pair of firemen were the longest serving among the service award recipients with 35 years with the Troup County Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Alan Waldroup and Fire Sergeant/EMT Mark Webb were recognized for a combined 70 years of service to Troup County.
Waldroup started working with TCFD in January of 1989. He graduated from West Georgia Technical College in 2009 with a degree in Fire Science and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant in August 2014, lieutenant in September 2017 and to his current position as Battalion Chief in March 2023.
Waldroup was awarded the Bronze Valor Award for a call in October 2021.
“Waldroup has obtained numerous certifications throughout his career and has consistently performed his duties with dedication, pride and professionalism,” Fire Chief Michael Strickland said.
He and his wife Jennifer have been married for 33 years. They have three sons, Lucas, Alex and Austin, and two grandchildren.
Sgt. Webb began working with TCFD on the same day as Waldroup, Jan. 11, 1989.
Webb received his EMT-I Certification and Associate Degree of Applied Science in Fire Science Technology in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in October 2014.
Webb has obtained several certifications and played a critical role in developing and maintaining the Pre-Fire Plan Sys s to each shift of the eight stations in the Troup County Fire Department.
In 1999, Webb was commended for his contributions to a report titled “Proposal for Revised Rescue Program.”
Webb is also a longtime Boy Scouts scoutmaster of many years, having earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1986.
He was married to Donna for 28 years until her passing in 2020. The two have one son, Allen.

4 County Clerk Valerie West, Firefighter/EMT Jeffery Veal and TCSO Capt. Mike Ellington were recognized for 30 years of service.
4 TCSO Sgt. Ed Burton and Deputy Shelly Downs were recognized for 25 years of service.
4 Tennis Manager William Champion, Endowment Facilities Manager JJ Kuerzi and TCSO Capt. Sadie Lee were recognized for 20 years of service.
4 Deputy Marshal Christopher Whittington and Assistant Nutrition Supervisor Joann Wiker were recognized for five years of service.
