The Callaway girls soccer team rode a dominant first half to an important 4-1 region victory over Elite Scholars on Tuesday. It was also the team’s Kicking Cancer game as they suited up in pink jerseys and kicked some tail on the soccer pitch.
All five goals in the game came in the first half as the second half featured some action, but no breakthrough.
Senior Mary Kate Baswell stole the show for Callaway. She scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute and proceeded to cap off her hat trick 10 minutes later when she put The Cavaliers up 3-0.
Fellow senior Kadence Leithleiter also got in on the act with a goal in the 31st minute to put Callaway up 4-0.
The one blemish against the Cavaliers was the fact that they surrendered a sloppy goal right before half as the ball pinballed around in the box before trickling into the back of the net.
Alayna Leithleiter made seven saves to persevere the victory for Callaway.
This was a huge region victory for the Cavaliers as they had to struggle to a 1-0 extra-time win against Elite Scholars last season.
Callaway has now won five games in a row to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in region play. The Cavaliers will keep up their busy week with a third game in as many days on Wednesday as the team travels to take on Lithonia for a non-region matchup.
