The Troup County School System announced Margaret “Dee” Franklin as the School Nurse of the Year this week in a congratulatory celebration thrown by Hollis Hand Elementary School.
Franklin has worked in the Troup County School System since August 2020. Before joining TCSS, she worked in Public Health and has been a nurse since 2012. Christy King, Coordinator of Health Services, stated, “Dee is the kind of nurse you want on your team. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, energetic, and dependable. We are fortunate to have her; this recognition is well deserved.”
To qualify for the title “School Nurse of the Year,” school nurses must have at least two years of experience, currently practice as school nurses, and spend more than 50% of their time in direct care. Nominated by peer vote, the School Nurse of the Year demonstrates excellence in school nurse practice (based on School Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice) and leadership in school health.
When asked what this honor means, Franklin said, “Every child deserves a school nurse. I am honored to have the privilege of serving my school every day. Being voted school nurse of the year is such a joyous honor, and I am so grateful for this opportunity to represent not just my school but TCSS as a whole!”
