The Callaway baseball team earned a hard-fought 3-0 win over Lamar County on senior night. It was a great way for the team to celebrate its six seniors — Korey Jackson, Bryce Hubbard, Julian Dukes, Brantin Swanson, Vince Williams and Elijah Johnson.
The game was a true pitcher’s duel as the game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cavaliers’ offense finally came to life, scoring three runs that would be enough to see them through to a win.
Dukes opened the scoring when he drove home a run with a single. Swanson hit a sacrifice fly that drove in the final two runs of the inning.
Dukes, Swanson, Hubbard, Slade Hunt and Lashun Gates all had a hit apiece for the Cavaliers.
Hubbard’s senior night was even more special on the mound. The right-hander threw a complete game in which he allowed just one hit on 14 strikeouts.
Callaway improved to 18-6 on the season. The Cavaliers have already locked up a two-seed and a home playoff series in the opening round to be played on April 25. The Cavaliers will have one final regular season game against Shaw at home on Friday.
