The LaGrange girls soccer team made a trip to Wayne County on Thursday for the second round of the state playoffs. The Grangers put on a dazzling display, winning 9-0 to punch their ticket to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season.
LaGrange ran away with the game early and built a 5-goal lead at halftime.
Senior Sam Cottle was sensational, scoring a hat trick and providing an assist. Georgia State commit Karley Perry also had a big game, scoring two goals and contributing an assist. LaGrange College bound Carlee Roland had two assists in the game.
The youth had an impact on the game as well. Sophomore Reese Humphries scored a goal and provided two assists. Freshman Briley Cooper scored a goal as did sophomore Amelia Rockwell.
Junior Emma Maradik made five saves in goal to earn a clean sheet.
LaGrange has to play without junior midfield Demi Russell — an all-region player — as she suffered a likely season- ending injury in the opening round of the playoffs.
LaGrange will travel to take on either Westminster or Pace Academy next Monday for the state quarterfinals.
