Troup takes game two, splits opening two games against Shaw in the state playoffs

The first round of the 4A state playoffs got underway on Thursday with Troup hitting the road to take on Shaw. The youthful Tigers fell in game one, but with their backs against the wall, they rallied to win game two and force a winner-take-all game three on Friday.
GAME TWO:
TROUP – 7
SHAW – 2
The Tigers got off to a much better start in game two versus game one. Troup was able to draw first blood in the bottom of the third inning when Parker Townsend scored on an error. Troup doubled its lead later in the inning thanks to a Davis Moncus sacrifice fly. Troup was not done there as Chase Mosley scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 heading to the fourth inning.
Troup added a fourth run of the game in the fourth inning when Chase Mosley grounded out to send Torreion Delaney home.
The Raiders eventually got on the board and cut Troup’s lead in half in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs.
Troup was not flustered and struck back in the bottom of the inning. Carson Walker grounded out to drive home a run. Fisher Baltzell stole home later in the inning to make it 6-2.
The Tigers made sure to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. An error allowed the first run to score.
Carson Walker got the start on the mound and gave Troup a quality five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs in seven strikeouts. Demetrius Hardnett came in to relieve Walker and did not allow a single hit in his inning on the mound. Tripp Cummings pitched the final inning, slamming the door on Shaw’s rally attempt.
The hits were spread around on offense with Chase Mosley leading the way with two and Garrison Edwards, Moncus, Baltzell, Delaney and Courtney Wilson all having one each.
GAME ONE:
TROUP – 2
SHAW – 5
The Tigers fell into an early hole in game one and could never quite recover in a 5-2 loss. The Raiders scored three runs in the bottom of the second to take the first lead of the game and they never looked back from there.
Shaw added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
The Tigers eventually got on the board in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of Edwards getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. With just one out and the bases loaded, Troup could not add to its tally.
The Tigers loaded the bases once again in the top of the sixth inning and were once again left frustrated.
Troup got another run in the top of the seventh when Baltzell grounded into a fielder’s choice, but the attempted rally fell well short.
Carson Walker had two hits for the Tigers while Chase Mosley and Wilson had one each with the offense struggling in game one.
Moncus got the start on the mound and pitched four innings, striking out four while allowing four hits and one earned run. The other four runs were unearned as Troup committed two costly errors in the game. Cummings threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit on two strikeouts.
WHAT’S NEXT:
Game three will be played in Columbus on Friday with the winner of the game advancing to face either Islands or West Lauren starting next Wednesday.
