Would you spend two hours to save a life?
On May 4, Wellstar and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will host a suicide prevention workshop presented by the QPR Institute.
Suicide continues to be a dilemma for our community with Georgia ranking 12th in the nation for death by suicide. Since COVID-19, rates have increased, with some areas seeing triple the amount of suicides compared to this time last year.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. It’s three simple steps that anyone can learn to help prevent suicide.
QPR Institute offers an evidence-based suicide prevention course that strives to educate the public in order to help save lives. The primary objectives are to train participants to understand the nature and range of suicidal communications and how to intervene on behalf of suicidal and in-crisis people.
Participants will learn how to:
4 Recognize suicide warning signs
4 Identify protective factors
4 Have the difficult but necessary conversations needed to determine safety
4 Make referrals to local professionals
The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 207 N. Greenwood St. in LaGrange.
