The LaGrange boys soccer team saw its season come to an end with history in sight. The team lost to Northwest Whitfield 2-1 in the 4A state quarterfinals on Tuesday as the team fell just short of making the state semifinals for the first time.
The Grangers went behind with just under 15 minutes to go in the first half and trailed 1-0 going into the break. LaGrange would leave it until just over three minutes in regulation when Elvis Castillo scored a goal that would eventually send the game to extra time.
Both teams had a chance to win it in the first extra time period with LaGrange’s Aidan Collins coming closest with a header that was saved.
The Grangers were eventually made to pay when NW Whitfield scored with just 98 seconds left in the game off a corner kick.
LaGrange will look to break through next season after two straight exits in the state quarterfinals
