In the fifth year of the Teaching as a Profession (TAP) Pathway, LaGrange High School celebrated eight seniors who completed the pathway and are planning to pursue a degree in education. Each student had former teachers/mentors share a few words of encouragement and praise for the student’s academic career. Throughout their speeches, the teachers/mentors echoed how they do not doubt that these eight students will become great teachers in the future.

As a surprise, Bob Heaberlin from the Professional Association for Georgia Educators (PAGE) presented Mikayla Wills with the 2024 PAGE Dr. Alton Crews Future Georgia Educators Scholarship. Following this, students signed a Georgia Commitment Certificate, committing to improving the quality of education for students in Georgia.

After the scholarship was presented, Troup County School System Superintendent Dr. Brian Shumate presented students with an Intent to Teach, stating that if the students complete their coursework and pass a background check, they will automatically be offered a teaching position in the school system.

Graduates

Skylar Fausett: Fausett completed his internship at Franklin Forest under Mr. Kirk Slay. He will be attending Columbus State University.

JaQualen (Qua) Fields: Fields completed his internship at LHS’s Exceptional Education department and will attend LaGrange College.

Adasha Reed: Reed completed her internship at Franklin Forest with her mentor, Mrs. Mackenzie Rogers. She will attend Columbus State University.

Azaleah Straughn: Straughn completed her internship at Franklin Forest. She will attend the University of West Georgia.

Lexie Vanhoose: Vanhoose completed her internship at Franklin Forest under Madison Shelton and will attend LaGrange College.

Lola Whitten: Whitten has worked at a local church daycare for the past two years and will attend West Georgia Tech.

Makayla Wills: Wills completed her internship at the Franklin Forest Media Center and will attend Savannah State University.

Shakaria Woodard: Woodard completed her internship at Franklin Forest under Mr. Dale Copeland and will attend Columbus State University.
