Blair defeats Kirkland for TCSS District 2.
Voters in District 2 have reelected Ferrell Blair to the Troup County School Board. Blair defeated competitor Joseph Kirkland.
1,113 voters cast ballots for Blair, while Kirkland received 576 votes.
“I’m thrilled, I’m honored, I’m humbled…It is very overwhelming to me that so many people care enough about me and think I’d be the right person for the job,” Blair said.
Blair has been on the school board since 2021, this will be his second term. He also serves as the board’s vice chair. As for his day job, Blair’s family owns a cattle ranch and he does real estate investing.
District 2 encompasses much of the Southeast quarter of Troup County.
Kirkland is a political newcomer; inspired to run as a father of kids currently in the school system. He works as an associate director and supply chain manager at Duracell in LaGrange.
“It’s unfortunate that I didn’t win, but I’m still, still encouraged, I’m still going to be active in the community,” Kirkland said.
Kirkland said he is heavily involved with the school district and plans to continue volunteering and being involved. He is involved in the community gardening club, as well as his children’s extracurricular activities.
Blair’s current term ends at the end of 2024, and his second will begin Jan. 1 for another four-year term.
“[The board] will keep getting training and learning and then come back and we can build some relationships with new members and hit the ground running,” Blair said.
