The West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Foundation awarded 64 individual scholarships for the 2024 summer semester totaling $40,000.
Scholarships cover a wide range of educational expenses, including tuition, books, and other related costs, and aim to reduce the financial barriers that students often face when pursuing higher education. Recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, financial need and commitment to their chosen fields of study.
Rainna Allen, a Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) student and recipient of the Bowdon Hospital Authority Scholarship, expressed her gratitude to her donor for their contribution, which helped cover the essential costs of the MLT program.
“With the scholarship covering some of the fees, I can now afford to purchase essential items such as books and uniforms, which would have been challenging to do without help,” said Allen. “This has lifted a significant financial burden off my shoulders and allowed me to focus on my studies without worrying about how I would pay for everything.”
The Foundation is also pleased to announce the addition of the Carrollton Golden K Scholarship this year. The Carrollton Golden K generously contributed $6,000 to establish this fund, which will award two $1,000 scholarships each semester. These scholarships are specifically designated for new students who are residents of Carroll County.
For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Foundation was able to award 204 scholarships to students, totaling almost $160,000.
“We are so grateful for the generous contributions of our donors who understand the importance of investing in technical education,” said WGTC Foundation Executive Director Brittney Wells. “These scholarships will make a significant difference in the lives of our students, helping them access the education and training they need to excel in their chosen fields.”
Scholarships are offered each semester to students in various programs and locations at WGTC. For more information about available scholarship opportunities, please visit www.westgatech.edu/foundation-scholarship.
