Another round of voting takes place on Tuesday, for three runoff races: Commissioner District 2, Commissioner District 3, and U.S. Congressional Georgia District 3. With a packed republican primary for these races, the candidates that received the two highest percentages of votes in the three races will now face off for the Republican nomination.

For District 2, incumbent Ellis Cadenhead is running against James Thrailkill. During the primary election on May 21, the two candidates tied, receiving 999 votes a piece. District 2 represented much of the Northeast portions of the county, including Hogansville. The winner of Tuesday’s election will face Democratic nominee Andrew Moody in November.

The commission seat for District 3 will see incumbent Lewis Davis and competitor Rex Scott face off. Davis received 472 votes compared to Scott’s 265 votes. Neither incumbents were able to get over 50 percent of the votes, required to avoid a runoff. District 3 encompasses the Southwest portion of the county, including West Point. 

After former West Point mayor and incumbent for the seat, Drew Ferguson announced that he would not be seeking re-election for the Georgia 3rd seat, the two remaining republican candidates up for office are Mike Dugan and Brian Jack. The winner will face Democratic nominee Maura Keller in November. The congressional district stretches from the southern suburbs of Atlanta to Columbus and includes Troup County.
