Motorists are advised to expect delays on Hamilton Road south of Interstate 85 as the Long Cane Bridge will be closed for the weekend.  

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will be shifting traffic back to the new bridge on Hamilton Road (SR 1) over Long Cane Creek starting Friday. A GDOT contractor will be closing the section of roadway at the bridge beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, and continue through the weekend. 

According to GDOT, the road closure is needed at the work zone to protect the crews and provide the space necessary for their equipment.

A suggested detour on Steele Ave. returning back to Hamilton Rd. will be marked.

Temporary road closure installations will be placed beginning June 21.

Signage will be posted in advance of the closure and drivers are encouraged to be alert to the closure.
