Eloise T Bowen, 84, of Lagrange, GA, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024 at her residence in Columbus, GA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William G. “Bill” Bowen.

Eloise was a very special lady to all that knew her. She was a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother and great grandmother. She loved unconditionally with such a giving and humble heart.  Her talents were many, though she never boasted about them at all. She was a tremendous cook, known for her delicious handmade biscuits, homemade dressing and our favorite snack – Chex party mix (referred to in our family as “ob dobs” as someone couldn’t pronounce hor d’oeuvres).

She was an excellent seamstress, making anything from curtains to dresses to book bags. She also played the piano, mostly for her family. We enjoyed many evenings gathered around her piano singing hymns. She enjoyed a good game of checkers, and you were lucky to win a game playing her!

Most of all, Eloise loved her family. She had 9 siblings (1 brother and 8 sisters) all who preceded her death. Family gatherings were always a big part of her life, and her family will continue to keep that tradition alive, as she would say –‘keep the family circle unbroken’. 

Eloise was a member of West Point Baptist Church where she enjoyed worship and participating in the preparation and delivery of meals to local shut-ins. Her church family was very important to her. Above all else, she loved her Savior, which was evident in her daily words and actions.  Proverbs 31: 25-31

During the last month we had tremendous care from Empyrean Hospice and The Oaks at Grove Park, and her family is extremely grateful for the love and care given to her. 

Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie (Keith) Heard and Suzie (Jerry) Roberts; grandchildren, Will (Mackenzie) Heard, Ashleigh (Chase) Slocumb, Anna (Jordan) Hodge and Brandon Roberts; great-grandchildren, Eloise Heard, Rollins Heard, Mitchell Heard, Jax Slocumb and Olivia Slocumb.

The family welcomes all that knew and loved Eloise to join them for a Gathering of Family and Friends from 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 28, 2024 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange, Ga. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 A.M and the internment will follow at Mountville Community Cemetery.
