Troup County Tax Commissioner Shane Frailey has announced that the Troup County Tag Office is temporarily closed due to computer issues.
The Georgia Department of Revenue is experiencing outages to the Motor Vehicle system due to the global IT outages caused by a faulty software update that has affected countless PCs around the world.
The trouble comes from an update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike which affected computers running Microsoft Windows. Crowdstrike says the issue is not the result of hacking or a cyberattack and a fix was on the way.
Tag offices statewide are unable to handle any motor vehicle transactions and have been forced to close.
Frailey said the tag office will be waiving late fees for transactions due while the office is closed.
The tag office hopes the issue will be resolved by Monday, July 22 when they expect to reopen at 8 a.m.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Frailey said. “Thank you for patience.”
