For Dr. Kristopher Nelson being well rounded isn’t just good for your soul; it’s good for your body too.
Nelson, 31, is a Family Medicine Physician with Emory at LaGrange. .Prior to becoming a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at VCOM- Auburn, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from GCSU in Milledgeville, Georgia.
As a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Nelson believes treating the entire person rather than just the symptoms and focuses on preventive health care, Osteopathic Medicine practitioners encourage their patients to develop attitudes and lifestyles that don’t just fight illnesses, but help prevent them as well.
Prior to becoming a physician, Nelson worked as a Research and Development chemist at a chemical plant in Cedartown, Georgia.
Relatively new to LaGrange and Troup County, Nelson is a native of Newnan. He and his family moved to Troup County in June of 2023 after finishing his Family Medicine Residency at Atrium Health Floyd in Rome, GA.
Nelson began working as a family medicine physician with Emory in August of 2023.
Having been practicing in LaGrange for about a year now, Nelson says he is meeting a lot of new people.
“I love building relationships with my patients,” he said, noting he has met plenty of families doing sports physicals for local middle and high school students.
Nelson was nominated not only for his work at Emory but for his work providing healthcare to underserved communities in Honduras.
As for his personal life, it’s well rounded too. Nelson is a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo and loves music and video games. He met his wife Ashley while on the drumline in highschool.
They have two children, Henry, 6, and Hazel, 2. Ashley is currently a stay-at-home mom and serves as PTO president for Henry’s school.
As for Nelson, he’s fitting in well locally and looking for opportunities to help around town.
“I plan to continue treating the local citizens of Troup County and build lifelong relationships with my patients,” he said.
