Troup trounces Upson-Lee for third win in a row

The Tigers are finding their groove. The Troup softball team won its third straight game on Tuesday, vanquishing region foe Upson-Lee 13-0 to get back to .500 or better (4-4) for the first time this season.

Troup took no time putting a marker down, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Senior Camdyn Bassett got the scoring party started with a two-run single. Olivia Damron got in on the fun with a one-run single and Gracie Baker grounded out to drive home the final run of the inning.

Troup went right back to work in the top of the second, adding two runs to its lead. Kaitlyn Smalley brought home the first on a sacrifice fly and Bassett continued her hot start to the game with a one-run single.

The Tigers’ offense showed no signs of slowing down, scoring five runs in the top of the third inning to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Maddie Colson got an RBI groundout to send the first run of the inning home. Baker scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0. Zoe Graham followed with a two-run single. Graham scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the inning.

Troup tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Graham singled to drive home the first run of the inning and Smalley walked with the bases loaded to bring home the second.

Graham had a strong showing from the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Bassett and Damron had two hits apiece while Smalley, Baker, Sheniyah Philpot and Cayleigh Godfrey all had a hit each.

Smalley got the start in the circle and pitched a four-inning complete game, striking out three batters and allowing just three hits.

Troup is now 3-1 in region play. The Tigers will be back on the diamond at home on Thursday in a pivotal region matchup with Trinity Christian.
