The LaGrange offense responded in a big way on Friday night. After sputtering and putting up a measly three points in week one against Douglass, the Grangers responded in kind in week two, leading LaGrange to a 53-0 bounce-back win over Early County.
The Grangers dropped the hammer on the Bobcats in the first half, taking a 28-0 lead at halftime. It was complimentary football as the defense would hand the ball to the offense and the offense would march down the field.
LaGrange got the ball first and went three and out, but that would be the only time the offense would struggle in the game. After Noah Outland got a big tackle for a loss near midfield on fourth down, the LaGrange offense took the ball, marched down the field and scored when Dylan Barber hit Denorayon Reid for a 15-yard touchdown on the offense’s second possession of the game.
The ensuing Earl County possession was disrupted by Spencer Stroud when he sacked the quarterback at the 1-yard line on third down, forcing a punt that ended up being muffed.
It would not matter as the defense would once again put the clamps on the Bobcat offense. LaGrange got the ball back and turned it into seven points when Malachi Fannin-Render, who carved up the Bobcats’ defense, found the end zone with 9:21 left in the first half.
Barber, who struggled last week in his debut with the Grangers, was in complete command against Early County. After his early touchdown to Reid, he found Jay Mitchell for a 5-yard touchdown and then a 55-yard strike to Torian Reeves to give LaGrange a commanding 28-0 lead with under two minutes to go in the first half.
The Burton Thomas-led defense showed no signs of letting up to start the second half as Harris Grace led a whole host of Granger defenders in getting a safety on the opening possession of the second half.
With the ball back with the offense, Barber connected with Reid for their second touchdown of the night to give LaGrange a dominant 36-0 lead early in the third quarter.
The Granger offense never let off the throttle and the home team made it 43-0 after a long touchdown run by Fannin-Render late in the third quarter.
Freshman Cooper Metcalf nailed a 44-yard field goal and Cason McGill got in on the fun with a late rushing touchdown to push LaGrange over the 50-point marker.
LaGrange is now 1-1 on the season. The Grangers will be back in action on the road to Sandy Creek next Friday for their region opener.
